Using Face Oils for Dry Skin | Skincare

Using Herbivore Orchid facial oil for dry skin

I wanted to have a quick chat about adulting and having dry/acne skin. Basically, I’m confessing that once upon a time I didn’t know how to take care of my skin, but now I do, and I wish I had known how earlier in life.

Growing up, I had very dry skin. And oh the acne was abundant.

I layered my makeup on top of that dry broken out skin every day.. my makeup always looked cracked and snowy and by the end of the day, most of it had flaked off. I wore my makeup like this until I was about 25, acne along for the ride.

My problem was, I never really knew what to do with my dry skin. I used Doctor prescribed face wash, but that was drying out my skin like crazy. I did use moisturizer, but I only used it in the morning and directly before I put my makeup on. I never used anything at night after I washed my face (one of my biggest mistakes), so my face would get washed with warm water and feel dry, itchy, and cracked at night. Not hydrated. Not soft. And I'd wake up to even dryer skin than before.

When I started hearing more and more about skincare (yeah, yeah, through influencers and bloggers— let the world be the first to know, I’m influenced by the influencers), the thought of using oil on my face (many bloggers were suggesting oils), seemed so opposite to me of what my dermatologist said I should be using back in high school. Oil on your face? Won't that make it oily and clogged?

I don't know the science about any of the stuff I was being prescribed, but I heard good things about this oil, and decided to try it out at night.

And my face began to thank me for finally hydrating it.

At night, I put a few drops of Herbivore botanicals ORCHID oil (which smells amazing btw) on my face and rub it in slowly and gently. I let it soak in. Then I put nighttime moisturizer on my face (a game changer combined with the oils). I’m currently using the off brand of OLAY. Skincare stuff can get pricy, so I buy the sets of oils (they come cheaper in sets) and use sparingly. The Herbivore 3 set lasts me a full year . So, it’s about $29 a year to use their oils on my face. To me, that number is worth it. But you can buy cheaper oils at Target or your local drug store.

At night, I go to bed with my face feeling like a soft bunny. The next day, I wake up with my face still feeling soft and hydrated. No itchiness or dryness. My makeup also sinks into my face, rather than caking on top of it. I love that part of hydrating my face.

I'm telling you all of this because I like sharing things I like with people who might like it too. And because I feel like part of adulting in my twenties, was caring for my face a little bit more. I do have a friend who tried face oils and felt they didn’t work well for her skin. So, I don’t think you can really know if you’ll like them until you try them.

What skincare products have you tried and feel have helped your face live it’s best life?
