My Top Ten First Dance Songs for 2019
The top ten best song choices for 2019 Wedding First Dances. Music moves me so deeply and connects me to moments. So I knew choosing a first dance song for us would be one of the biggest decisions I made for our wedding.
Finding Community and Belonging at Lubbock Con | Portraits
A first timer’s (and outsiders) Comic Con experience. I was fascinated by cosplayers’ devotion to their homemade costumes and emotional connections to their cosplay character. If I had to pick three words to describe my interactions with the Lubbockon community, I’d choose: Community, empowerment, and acceptance. There was a real sense of belonging and admiration in this Comic Con world. And I really loved that.
We're Moving
After so much waiting, praying, pro and con weighing, and decision-making… we’ve finally decided to move to New York City. Brett will be starting a Classics doctoral program at Columbia in August. While I haven’t fully landed on what I’ll pursue while we’re there, I’m pumped on the options I have (continuing my business will definitely be something I will keep doing… I love working with star-crossed lovers on their weddings and vows).
I'll Have What She's Having | APRIL
It’s Coachella this week, so I thought I’d share this Mushroom print by my fave Etsy artist, Shannon Kirsten. Also, on carousel display are my OLLLDD SCHOOL Coachella Instagram snapshots from 2012. I didn’t even know what Coachella was when my brother invited me to go. I had the time of my life.
Galentine's Giveaway | You CAN sit with us
One of my favorite lines from Mean Girls (one of my all time favorite movies and musicals) is when Gretchen yells at Regina “YOU CAN’T SIT WITH US!”.
That line is so iconic. And hilarious. And Ridiculous. And you’ve probably had it yelled at you before by someone sarcastic like me.
But the “you can’t sit with us” mentality is totally something I see in my generation and the generation I mentor.
Short Impactful Sentences | Enneagram 9
Words for my life. Based on my enneagram nine.
This is a prayer. And a self-affirmation.
That I wouldn’t fall into busy-ness, but that I would seek out sweeter and deeper quiet. That I would work really really hard to be quiet in my mind… not numb or asleep to my feelings or circumstances.
Snow Day
A snow day in Texas from a southern lifestyle blog.
Something about waking up to see the world draped in the whitest snow… I never wanted to stop looking out the window today.
While we weren’t walking around campus, Brett was studying for finals, I was therapeutically rearranging our kitchen and living room, and I watched Netflix’ Dumplin’ (and really loved it). There was a glass of eggnog in there somewhere.
Aunt Stacie
or two people who have walked the earth together for twenty-five years, I was afraid of being in two very different life stages for once. We’ve stumbled and struggled through middle school braces, high school drama (in the theatre and out of the theatre if you know what I mean), and similar college experiences. For the most part, we dated our husbands at the same time, got engaged in the same year, and got married within a year of each other. When you’ve lived such similar life paths, how do you relate when it feels like you started taking two very different paths?
Peter Rabbit | Halloween Costume
One of my MOST treasured childhood memories is reading Peter Rabbit. Peter Rabbit was also one of the MOST AMAZING and HILARIOUS movies of the year for me. So this costume was TOO exciting for me to create and plan.
The miniature Peter Rabbit tea set in these pictures is FROM my childhood and I’ve been DYING to dress up as Peter Rabbit and drink tea out of my Peter Rabbit tea set. AND. I. DID. IT.
Glacier National Park, Montana | Travel
Nature and I don’t see each other much. And when we do, it takes awhile for me to warm up to it. But give me time and I’ll fall in love with the smell of the mountains, the sound of absolute quiet, and the way the shadows of the trees change as the sun moves across the sky.
This year my parents took us to Montana because 1) I think they secretly just wanted to hang out with us, and 2) Because my sister just turned 40, and 40 is worth doing something epic for
I'll Have What She's Having | September
1.I’ve never seen a wedding video like this. I searched and watch a TON of wedding videos the other day for wedding photography inspiration, and when I found this, my jaw dropped. The Cinematography and music are some of the best I’ve ever seen.
2. Speaking of love. It’s a wild thing. The other day I was talking with friends about my love/hate relationship with country music and I was trying to tell them how grateful I was for Kacey Musgraves and Ruston Kelly. Their albums this year have both really challenged the genre of Country Music and even though I’ve heard Kacey’s album a million times, I’ll never be tired of Love is a Wild Thing.
A lot of Things.
Not an hour ago I overheard a customer assuring a Barista that she didn't need to know what she was going to do with her life. That she'd figure it out. The thing.
And I'm over here screaming internally- YOU'RE DOING IT RIGHT NOW. YOU'RE DOING THE THING FOR THIS MOMENT. It's your thing until you move onto the next thing. And I really believe, for some of us in this world, there will be multiple things we're called to do. And that's okay. Some people don't think it's okay. But I think it is. For some of us, having multiple things is a necessity.
