Ideas for Celebrating National Pop Corn Day!

Celebrating National Pop Corn day by reminiscing about Movie theatre popcorn!

More butter, please. Something I’m putting into practice this year is celebrating the weird, ridiculous, or lesser known holidays. Starting first with National PopCorn Day. There are a lot of things in life I can be sad about because of the pandemic, so celebrating the little-er things is something I really want to do this year.

One of the things I miss most about “life before the pandemic” is going to the movies. One of our personal social distancing decisions has been to not go to the movies until we are vaccinated. Movies are expensive in NYC, so we actually only went to see one movie last year (Little Women), and it was SO special for us— but it feels like we haven’t gone in a long time and I miss that movie magic— there’s something about watching a movie with other people, the smell of popcorn, and the closeness of the screen that makes it feel magical.

And, even though the price tag is high, I always LOVE a movie theatre popcorn + bubbly sugary soda. Movie theatre popcorn is nothing to me without extra butter and that buttery mystery salt.

Y’all, I sound a little crazy when I write it, but I get teary-eyed when I think about the first time I’ll be able to go back to a movie theatre. I’m thinking there will be a lot of “firsts” I’ll cry happy tears over. But fresh movie theatre popcorn and a soda will definitely be one of them.

I have two questions for you:
1. How do you like your popcorn?
2. What is a first you look forward to?

If you need some ideas for at-home popcorn enjoyment, try making your own sweet and salty in a pot on the stove (here’s a tutorial from Busy Creating Memories), buying some in a bag (we are suckers for Pirates booty White Cheddar!), or hitting up your local movie theatre just for some popcorn (this is a great way to support them without going inside if that’s not your thing!).

Happy Popping! Maybe next year we’ll be celebrating National PopCorn day at the movies?!
