Make Your Own Jewelry Book | DIY
Jewelery hoarders, there are a million gidgets, gadgets, cabinets, and caboodles out there for storing your jewelry.
But there aren’t many jewelry books out there, and that’s why I’m SO excited to share this project with you. Something I really value in a DIY project is that it leaves me with a household item or piece of clothing that is unique to me.
And this Jewelry Book is just that. I’ve included a loose DIY process below for you, so you can make customize your own jewelry book unique to you!
A few months ago, I was on Pinterest trying to find a DIY way to store the jewelry I’ve been making, as well as the jewelery I inherited from my grandmother. I saw really fancy leather/zip up jewelry books that were compact and easy to use, but like anything I find online, I thought— I gotta make this.
I saw a few ideas and tutorials (like this one and this one) for a felt jewelry book and really loved the idea of creating one out of felt, knowing I could stick pins and earrings into the felt without damaging it.
So I did!
How I made the felt pages:
I took six felt pannels and folded them all in half (just like you would fold a piece of paper in half), then stacked them on top of each other and sewed the folded parts together. Just like pages in a book are sewn together. I basically was book-binding with felt.
Honestly, I tried using my felt book for a few months, but didn’t love how flimsy the pages were. I either needed a sturdier felt or I needed to add sturdier book ends.
So I created a book cover! And of course, I had to be all extra and embroider the front! In case you missed it, I learned how to embroider this past year, and now I want to embroider everything I can get my hands on.
How I made the book cover:
I first cut the linen material to the size I would need it, sized up where the “Title” of the book would sit once the linen was tightened over the book spine, and traced a design (“JEWELS”) onto the material. I then embroidered over the design and hand drew a few extra flowers and greenery.
Once the embroidery was finished, I set out the book spine pieces on top of the material and glued/ironed the material onto the cardboard spine (I used my special book binding glue for this— it never fails me! I wasn’t sure if it would work on felt, but it worked super well!).
Once the cover was glued on, I glued the felt book to the inside of the book and, voila!
I now have this beautiful jewelry book that actually looks like a real book from the outside! I love that I can leave it out on display or put it on a book shelf!
Would you like a full DIY tutorial for this?
I think it would be fun to make a series of jewelry books to stack on top of one another and style on our dresser (I’m trying to figure out how to create a felt book for my necklaces— something that would make it easy to access them but also allow them to not get tangled up in each other).
