Walking the Streets of Lower Manhattan
I’ve learned a lot about my own personal photography style since I started taking photos eight years ago. BUT I always get excited to stretch my creativity and style, with both camera and editing. So, walking around Lower Manhattan with a lens I’m not used to and without the goal of capturing smiles and moments between humans, was such a good creative challenge for me.
I’m drawn to moodier photos, but I shoot a bit brighter because my style and the clients I have often need photos to have a more natural light feel. And because I mainly photograph humans, I usually use 35mm, 50mm, or 85mm lenses. So, I ventured out with an incredibly wide lens that distorts beautifully. I walked the streets with my photographer friend, Marissa, who mainly photographs the city, so watching her take her time for each shot and to even just see what intrigued her about the city— it was really fun for me to see someone else approach the same craft so differently.
If you’ve ever photographed weddings or quick sessions with families, you know it can sometimes be easy to take many photos quickly to ensure you don’t miss a moment. So me learning to take my time with light, shadows, and moments is really quite challenging. I actually feel I have SO much to learn still. But I really loved how these turned out.
And THANK YOU Marissa for posing for photos when I just HAD to have someone in a photo.
I edited SO much darker than usual, what do you think? Do these make you want to walk Lower Manhattan at sunset too?
