I'll Have What She's Having | Spooktober
In case you’re new around here, every month I share a random list of things I’m loving (either pop culture or window shopping). The title “I’ll Have What She’s Having” comes from the cult classic When Harry Met Sally— it’s what the lady at the opposite table of Meg Ryan says after Meg Ryan has a fake— well, if you know— you know.
I love these round ups and I would love to hear what shows your’e watching, what movies you’re loving, what songs you can’t stop playing, or what items you’re putting in your shopping cart!
Last year, in NYC, we walked around on Halloween and watched kids trick or treat at local restaurants and shops. Doormen had decorated their building entrances and were handing out candy— It was a very different Halloween experience for us! In Texas this year, the neighbors down the street elaborately set up a skeleton man and a skeleton dog paddling in a canoe together. I’m living for these “scenes” and I’ve noticed they’ve been popping up all over the neighborhood! All of this decorating makes me want to binge Christine McConnell’s youtube channel.
I’ve seen A TON of my friends adopting furry friends during COVID! Buying a dog went beyond window shopping for us and I’m really grateful for Tonks this week. If you live in Fort Worth and are considering adopting a dog, we really enjoyed our experience adopting her from Animal Hope Fort Worth.
I am all things guilty pleasure this week. Making Dr. Pepper Lattes like I’m in my twenties and binging JULIE AND THE PHANTOMS like I’m in my teens! Have you watched Julie and the Phantoms yet? Have you at least listened to the soundtrack?
As a calligrapher, I get to offer and buy this beautiful handmade paper to print my clients’ vows on! It always reminds me of when I got to learn how to make handmade paper when I was in elementary school! Did you ever learn how to make paper?
I’ve recently really gotten into Loft blouses! Like this striped one, this puffy sleeved one, and this floral ruffly one.
Helena Bonham Carter and Millie Bobbie Brown in Enola Holmes was the 2020 pairing I didn’t know I needed.
You know I love me a good music video. I love how Shawn Mendes’ Wonder Video was shot. I love the choreography and movement. The Color scheme. The song. Brett and I did “wonder” why they didn’t just make him go shirtless at the end when his tank top was already wet and see through… ;)
Little Voice had me laughing and in tears every episode. The soundtrack is on repeat. Thank you Sara Bareilles, you’re a gift who keeps on giving.
Nick Cordero and Amanda Kloot’s story continues to be on my mind. Nick passed away due to COVID complications after having no pre-existing conditions. Following their story and praying for his recovery was a big part of my day during the first few months of COVID. While Amanda is an encouragement of hope and an honest account of grief, Nick’s story always keeps me grounded in how real COVID is. Their story reminds me that COVID is a big deal. It has had a negative impact on families and businesses. And there are so many people whose grief is still very real, unseen, and it is not a grief we can gloss over or pretend doesn’t exist.
So, Why not buy a new mask to keep yourself and others safe? Or buy a t-shirt from Amanda Kloot’s new t-shirt collection, HOORAY FOR, that goes toward COVID-19 research.
I’ve been going a few days a week with my phone off and it’s been really nice. I can still get messages or calls on my computer, but it’s been nice to not reach for my phone much at all.
