Say Your Wedding Vows to One Another Once a Week | May's Marriage Challenge

Brett and I are reading our handwritten vows off of our new throw pillows. You can buy your wedding vows personalized on a pillow here.

This month, we need an encouraging and uplifting challenge, don’t we? We need a challenge that reminds us of why we are social distancing with our spouse.

We need a challenge to encourage us to be patient with them. A challenge to encourage us to put their needs above our own. A challenge that encourages us to bravely love them.

This month, we will be saying our Wedding Vows to one another once a week.

We will be scheduling a time that’s good for both of us (probably right before bed) and reading them to one another.

If the first thought that pops into your head is, “I’m not sure where our wedding vows are”, “we wrote letters to one another before our wedding, but we didn’t write our vows”, or “we chose to use traditional vows”, go ahead and take one minute to write out some ways you want to work to build up your spouse this week. Write those down and say those to your spouse.

I believe we need this challenge this month, because words have power. Power to hurt and power to love. And saying out loud who we hope to be, not just in our marriage for the long run, but in our marriage this week, could have SUCH an awesome impact.

Consider the role words have played in your own life.

Has a loved one every said something to you that completely brightened your day and encouraged you?

Has a loved one ever said something so deeply hurtful, you’re still processing and working through the pain of what they said years and years later?

Right now, I could see how it could be easy to use our words to hurt each other. To be impatient. To get angry. To loudly question why our spouse hasn’t done a single dish in the sink today.

But, I can also see that this could be a good time to really consider the words we use with our spouse— How can we build them up? How could using the wedding vows you promised and celebrated so long ago, impact your entire month for the better?

This is our challenge for the month! Just once a week!

Let us know if you’re joining us! We would love to hear how the challenge goes for you! Does it build your marriage up? Does it challenge you to actually live out who you promised you would be? Does it build up your spouse? Does it actually make living our your vows even more challenging?

We will share with you how this month’s marriage challenge goes for us too!

Making Marriage Meaningful,

Stacie and Brett
