Peeps Crown for the Michaels Competition
Sometimes I need to do something that’s super out of the box.
When I saw Peeps and Michaels were holding a Peeps crafting competition, I thought that would be something fun and totally-not-me to participate in. Especially as it has been very tempting to work all day every day.
When I was brainstorming ideas for what I could make, I thought maybe I could make a Peeps diorama like I’ve seen in the past. But I don’t actually have a ton of crafting supplies right now, so I came back to the drawing board, considering only things I could make from home.
And then I saw it!
An acquaintance of mine was in a beautiful photoshoot with one of those beautiful gold spike crowns on her head, and I immediately thought that would be a really fun way to craft my peeps. I love fashion and accessories, so designing something I could wear and get all beautified for got me really excited.
When I knew I wanted to do a crown, I threw together a little sketch of what I imagined. Once I designed the sketch, I crafted the real headband using some of my pop up book skills for creating levels on the headband. I hot glued the bunnies and the painted chopsticks to the headband (SO MUCH HOT GLUE EVERYWHERE!), mourned with my Dad (who loves peeps) the loss of so many uneaten Peeps, had my photoshoot, then added in illustrations in post-editing. You can see the sketch and illustration process in the video in this post!
I gave myself some fun eye-makeup and my neighbor SO kindly gave me some MAC lipsticks to try out, so I gave myself a fun bright lip! I put on the brightest clothes I own, and had so much fun snacking on Peeps, pretending to be the Statue of Liberty (for Peeps and Justice), and feeling so ridiculous and fun.
So, what should my next out-of-the-box craft be?
